Perfluoro-2-methyl-3-ethylpentane, C8F18, is a fully-fluorinated, odourless, colourless liquid with the following characteristics:
- Compatibility with most construction materials
- Excellent chemical and thermal stability
- Non flammability
- Practically non-toxic1
Applications
Perfluoro-2-methylpentane is often used under the trade name Flutec TG-PMEP as a tracer or taggant but Perfluoro-2-methylpentane is also be used for heating and cooling applications as well.
Safety, Handling and Storage
Although Perfluoro-2-methyl-3-ethylpentane is considered biologically and chemically inert, good laboratory practice should be observed when handling. Perfluoro-2-methyl-3-ethylpentane has an indefinite shelf life if properly stored in its original sealed container. Safety data sheets are available on request.
